About The Position

This role involves reviewing and processing departmental order requests, preparing and distributing medications to patient care units, and maintaining medication inventory. Responsibilities include checking expiration dates, processing returns, handling billing and other non-pharmacist duties, and maintaining regulatory documentation. The position also involves pre-packaging and labeling medications, answering phones, maintaining department cleanliness, and adhering to established policies and procedures. Participation in educational programs and providing service excellence are also key aspects of the role. Specific duties vary based on whether the individual is an Academy Trainee, a State Licensed Pharmacy Technician, or a Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician.

Requirements

  • Massachusetts state registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee (Trainee).
  • Mathematical skills at the level of a High School graduate or equivalent, as demonstrated by successful completion of a timed CCHC Pharmacy math test (Trainee).
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Possesses basic computer/keyboarding skills necessary to run multiple Pharmacy specific applications and communicate efficiently via the messaging system (Trainee).
  • Attempt CCHC Pharmacy Tech Trainee exam after a minimum of 500 hours worked (Trainee).
  • Must pass CCHC Pharmacy Tech Trainee exam by 700 hours worked (Trainee).
  • Massachusetts state registration as a Pharmacy Technician (State Licensed & Nationally Certified).
  • Duties require very good verbal communication and interpersonal skills (State Licensed & Nationally Certified).
  • One-year recent experience (within the past 3 years) as a Pharmacy Technician; 3 years preferred, or PTCB certification or equivalent certification as an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee (Nationally Certified).

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and processes departmental order requests.
  • Prepares medications for distribution to the patient care units.

  • Maintains the medication inventory, place orders in stock, check expiration dates, process returns as needed.
  • Billing and other pharmacy duties that do not require a pharmacist.
  • Maintains appropriate records and regulatory documentation.
  • Pre-packaging and labeling of bulk medications to unit dosed containers/packaging.
  • Answers telephone directing phone calls appropriately and diverts all medication/clinical inquiries to the Pharmacist.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the department.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and Infection Control standards.
  • Participates in educational programs, in-services and meetings as required.
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and coworkers.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for issuance and delivery of non-controlled medications in a timely manner (Trainee).
  • Accurately process sales in Community Pharmacy Point of Sale device using cash, credit cards, and checks (Trainee).
  • Orders medications from various suppliers (State Licensed).
  • Prepares parenteral products (State Licensed).
  • Trains and orients new pharmacy support personnel (State Licensed).
  • Issuance and delivery of Schedule II-V medications to an Automated Dispensing Cabinet in a timely manner (State Licensed).
  • Obtains patient medication orders for medication reconciliation duties to input into MAR (Nationally Certified).
  • Prepares chemotherapy and dosage calculation checks (Nationally Certified).
