The Pharmacist compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies, assists with clinical pharmacy services, and collaborates with other departments to ensure optimal patient care. This role involves monitoring, dispensing, and adjusting medications for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Demonstrable skills in pharmacokinetics required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills as well as organizational skills necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • PharmD preferred.
  • PGY1 residency or Board Certification preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in a hospital and/or institutional pharmacy is preferred.
  • Knowledge of daily hospital/institutional pharmacy operations preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews physician medication orders and enters them into the patient profile via computer.
  • Prepares and/or checks all I.V. admixtures using appropriate aseptic technique.
  • Provides medication information to physicians and other Center staff upon request.
  • Provides pharmacokinetic consultations as needed on appropriate patients.
  • Provides thorough discharge counseling about medications as necessary.
  • Participates in on-going total quality management projects of the department, including data collection.
  • Receives Narcotic inventory by keeping records, marking packages, and shelving medications.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with Center and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.
  • Supervises and manages technicians on their shifts to provide excellent pharmacy services.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility.
  • Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process.
