About The Position

This PRN Advanced Practice Provider (APP; physician assistant or nurse practitioner) will be a member of the neurosciences team at Intermountain Medical Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and level I Trauma Center in Murray Utah. The APP assists neurosurgeons in the care of patients hospitalized with a variety of neurosurgical conditions, including traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, tumors, etc. After being oriented to all aspects of neurosurgery and spine, the APP provides care in inpatient, outpatient, neurosurgical trauma, and neurocritical care settings. The APP's primary responsibility will be inpatient care of neurosurgery patients, though they will also consult on patients in the ER, as well as new consults in the hospital, first assist with emergent surgeries, round with the Neurosurgery Care Coordination team, and be a resource to hospital nursing staff. In addition, this APP may answer call pages that come through from the floor, ER, clinic and the answering service.

Requirements

APRN or PA-C degree from an accredited program
Active, unobstructed Utah medical license, or the ability to obtain one
BLS certification
DEA certification
Ability to successfully complete Intermountain Health’s credentialing process

Responsibilities

Inpatient care of neurosurgery patients
Consulting on patients in the ER and hospital
First assist with emergent surgeries
Inpatient rounding with the Neurosurgery Care Coordination team
Being a resource to hospital nursing staff
Answering call pages from the floor, ER, clinic, and the answering service
Practicing at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah
Seeing and reading information, labels, assessing patient needs, operating monitors, identifying equipment and supplies
Verbally communicating with patient care providers, patients, and visitors, and hearing and understanding spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations
Manipulating complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
Lifting and utilizing full range of movement to transfer patients
Bending to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, typically including items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items
Walking and assisting with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, often navigating crowded and busy rooms
Standing in a stationary position for an extended period of time
