About The Position

The Inpatient Dietitian assesses the nutritional status of patients using current scientific literature and relates this information to their medical status, anthropometric data, clinical assessment, and dietary evaluation. They are responsible for completing all required documentation, including nutritional care plans, assessments, consultations, nutrient intake analyses, and patient education, in a timely, professional, and thorough manner within the patient's medical record and on all required documentation tools. The role involves providing and assessing the effectiveness of patient and family education, developing and evaluating appropriate educational materials, and identifying learning needs based on each patient's developmental and educational level, documenting learner response to teaching. The dietitian completes consults as ordered by physicians and nurses, and consults with physicians, nurses, clinical dietitians, and others to coordinate nutrition into a total patient therapy program. They participate in meal rounds to assess nutritional intake and status of patients on assigned units and to evaluate the quality of patient meal service, advising the department on patient care and food service issues. Additionally, the role involves teaching and disseminating nutrition research findings to medical staff, nursing, pharmacy, patients, and the public, and arranging for appropriate care for newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and older adult patients.

Requirements

  • Registered Dietitian (by the Commission of Dietetic Registration) and licensed by affiliated state board as applicable OR successful completion of the Registered Dietitian exam and must be registered and licensed within 6 months of employment required.
  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition or related field if CDR registration eligibility is obtained prior to January 1, 2024, or minimum of master’s degree if initial CDR registration is obtained on or after January 1, 2024.
