About The Position

The Patient Transporter is responsible for providing guest/transport services within the facility. This includes transporting patients, assisting with transfers, discharges, admissions, and escorting patients and visitors. The role also involves transporting patients with medical devices and equipment, coordinating activities to guide individuals within the facility, and ensuring the safe handling and transport of patients. Additionally, the transporter will educate patients and visitors, utilize capacity management systems, maintain transport equipment, and ensure the environment is safe and clean.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Typing skills desirable.
  • Strong leadership skills desirable.
  • Experience in a physically demanding work environment.
  • BLS certified within 6 months.
  • Computer and data entry skills are desirable.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a guest services or hospitality industry is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients, assist with transfers, discharges, admissions, and escort patients and visitors.
  • Transport patients with medical devices/equipment (oxygen cylinders, intravenous pumps, PCA pumps, wound vac, etc.).
  • Coordinate activities to guide patients, visitors/guests, and staff to desired designations within the facilities.
  • Adjust liter flow and determine PSI in an oxygen cylinder, and transfer canula tubing for wall unit to/from cylinder.
  • Perform safe patient handling, including moving patients, using patient lifts, and performing patient transfers (stand-pivot and lateral).
  • Provide education to patients and visitors/guests regarding room orientation, transport process, and answer questions about support services or direct them to the appropriate resource.
  • Use capacity management system and equipment (Encompass/Epic, I Phone, Halo, computer, etc.) to process tasks.
  • Assist with the care and maintenance of transport equipment to ensure it is safe, clean, and ready for use.
  • Inspect equipment before and after use to identify defective equipment and report immediately to supervisor.
  • Monitor facilities to ensure the environment is safe and clean, ensuring unattended equipment does not obstruct hallways, electrical panels, fire extinguishers, or emergency exits.
  • Maintain equipment inventory throughout facilities, including stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, oxygen cylinders and carriers, and IV poles.
  • Complete and maintain required training, educational programs, and certifications.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Adhere to Advocate Health and departmental policies and procedures.
