Innovation Services Intern | Naperville, IL
About The Position
IMEG is hiring a Summer 2027 Innovation Services Intern in Naperville, Illinois, to support the innovation team with technical assistance, workflow documentation, and learning new technologies that support strategic projects. This full-time, in-office internship lasts 10–12 weeks and provides hands-on experience supporting innovation initiatives across multiple specialty areas. The Sustainability & Energy Intern will work with experienced engineers and consultants on engineering analysis and implementation of sustainability and energy-efficiency measures in buildings. Work may include energy modeling, daylight analysis, carbon analysis, life-cycle cost analysis, green-building certification support and administration, and CFD analysis. The intern will support project goals and client expectations while working within project budgets, and will gain experience through research, data collection, reporting, troubleshooting, process documentation, and collaboration across the firm.
Requirements
- Strong interest in sustainability and innovation.
- Working knowledge of building interior and exterior systems.
- Working knowledge of green-building certifications such as LEED, WELL, and Living Building.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing, with individuals and groups.
- Completed at least two years toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Architecture, or an equivalent field.

- Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry.
Responsibilities
- Assist with supporting sustainable design practices across the company.
- Assist with building performance analyses on IMEG projects.
- Assist with green-building certification efforts, including energy modeling, documentation, and certification coordination for project teams.
- Assist with coordinating design information from architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment-supplier disciplines to inform energy models.
- Assist with identifying building or campus decarbonization strategies, including solar photovoltaic assessments and calculations.
- Assist with sustainable design recommendations and decisions under the guidance of senior staff.
- Assist with researching energy-efficient design code requirements, including LEED, IECC, and ASHRAE 90.1.
- Assist with preparing and issuing reports.
- Provide technical assistance, document workflows, and learn technologies that support strategic innovation projects.
- Support innovation initiatives through research, data collection, reporting, troubleshooting, process documentation, knowledge sharing, and cross-functional collaboration.
