About The Position

Potomac State College (WVU Keyser), part of the West Virginia University system of campuses, located in Keyser, WV is currently accepting applications for a part-time Innovation and Enterprise Supervisor. This part-time position will oversee the WVU Potomac State agricultural shop, farm enterprises and teach courses in sustainable agriculture entrepreneurship (SAGE) and agriculture-forestry subjects. The emphasis of the enterprises will be on innovation, value-added, and the changing marketplace in the agricultural landscape. The supervisor will provide mentorship to students in the enterprises for workforce career development. With the faculty, the director will facilitate workshops and training sessions as WVU-PSC workshops or as collaborative sessions with other academic institutions, cooperative extension service, and regional producer groups. The position will be located in Keyser, WV. Travel will be required to all WVU-PSC owned farms and regionally to work with other entities in support of the educational needs of the students and workshop partners.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a related field
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience involving: Shop or Enterprise production experience
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
  • A genuine passion for traditional and new, innovative agricultural-forestry products and services.
  • Strong documentation, communication, organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to teach courses with all expected aspects; course preparation, lecture and hands-on instruction presentation, appropriate assignments and examinations, assessments of learning, and grading.
  • Operation and maintenance of various shop equipment including, but not limited to, laser cutter, plasma cutter, wood working equipment, 3-D printer, labeling equipment, and hand tools.
  • Operation and maintenance of enterprises including, but not limited to, bee keeping, maple syrup, mushroom production, specialty horticultural crops, pollinator ecosystems, and sales of products.

Responsibilities

  • Implement instruction and demonstration programs by working with individual students or groups on enterprises or shop projects to develop and master needed skills with production, marketability, and safety as paramount objectives.
  • Meet with director of farm operations, faculty and farm staff on a regular basis to coordinate academic needs and hands-on skill development for the benefit of the students and workshop attendees.
