This position is responsible for the supervision of inmates assigned to the Rock Lake Cattle area and the documentation of inmate misconduct while under Florida Forest Service (FFS) supervision. The incumbent supervises inmates who will assist in the day-to-day operations and upkeep of the department Cracker Cattle and Cracker Horse herd. Responsibilities include feeding, grazing, worming, spraying, working, moving and general upkeep of the pastures and fences dedicated to the herd for grazing. Assist with birthing or breeding cycle of cattle. Maintains working electronic records on all cattle, with attention given to identifying calves with proper dams at birthing times. Ensures minerals, liquid feed and hay are always supplied when needed. Transport animals to different locations as required. Maintains the health of the herd at the department expectations, and immediately notifies the Maintenance Administrator, when necessary, to assist in this task. This position supervises inmates who are assigned to landscaping and grounds maintenance activities performed at Rock Lake Cattle area, and other areas as assigned. The incumbent will also be responsible for training assigned offenders in the safe use and care of tools, road maintenance, facilities construction and maintenance, and other state lands management and/or maintenance activities. Supervises inmates who are involved in special projects such as tree planting, land preparation in cattle demonstration area and improvements and yearly pinecone collection. Responsible for inventory of assigned equipment, project planning, and completion of reports and share with the Facilities Maintenance Administrator. Meet all inventory deadlines of the state office. Responsible for maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.
