The Inmate Production Officer oversees the daily operation of the manufacturing center, spending about 75 percent of their time on the production floor. This position keeps the shop running smoothly by supervising inmate workers, monitoring workflow, maintaining inventories, and ensuring tools, materials, and equipment are used safely and correctly. The officer drives high standards for quality and safety, keeps equipment in good-working order, communicates key updates to management, and models professionalism and ethical behavior while enforcing all MCE policies. Key responsibilities include guiding inmates through daily production tasks, coordinating with department staff and customers, creating and teaching production layouts, leading safety and quality training, assisting customers with designs/orders/installation/etc., and other duties as assigned. The officer inspects work throughout the production process to ensure standards are met. This role requires strong situational awareness, good physical condition, strong computer skills, and comfort working in a correctional setting with frequent standing and walking, lifting up to 50lbs, moving large items, and use of industrial equipment.
