About The Position

This position involves directly supervising, hiring, training, and evaluating marine personnel operating in the Gulf Inland Waters. Key responsibilities include conducting Tug Inspections, attending SIRE inspections, and performing evaluations and navigation audits of Deck Officers through direct observations on board. The role also entails developing marine operations and cost control programs for vessels, assisting in new project development, and interfacing with customers. Additionally, the Inland Port Captain will assist in vessel scheduling of personnel as required and produce weekly Operations reports. Centerline Logistics is a prominent provider of marine transportation services across the United States, including the West Coast (Alaska and Hawaii), East Coast (Puerto Rico), Gulf Coast, and the Mississippi River System. The company specializes in the transportation and storage of petroleum products, tanker escort, ship assist, general cargo transportation, and rescue towing. Centerline Logistics serves as the parent company for eight marine services businesses and a bulk liquids terminal business, providing essential accounting, administrative, human resources, safety, environmental, and other support services to its subsidiaries.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of experience as Master on Inland towing vessels, pushing barges on the ICWW from Corpus Christ TX to Pascagoula MS. Western Rivers including LMR, Illinois, Ohio or equivalent military experience.
  • Four (4) year college education in Maritime or related studies or equivalent experience.
  • Valid US Coast Guard Masters of Towing for Inland and Western Rivers. Or at least a 200 ton Near Coastal Master with Master Western Rivers and a tow endorsement.
  • Minimum of two years shoreside vessel management
  • Extensive knowledge of the tugboat and oil transportation industry
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with tank barge, ship and terminal/refinery operations
  • Knowledge of tug and barge maintenance systems and equipment
  • Complete a 24 hour HAZWOPER course (including Incident Command System) training within 6 months of being hired
  • First Aid/CPR training
  • Valid State Driver’s license
  • Ability to get along with office staff and vessel crew members
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications
  • Able and willing to travel to the out ports
  • Ability to work with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment
  • Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance
  • Proficient using Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)

Nice To Haves

  • Dangerous Liquids barge PIC endorsement strongly preferred
  • 500T Minimum Master of Towing preferred
  • STCW Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Captains, Mates, and Deck Crews
  • Conduct Management Vessel Inspections on repair and maintenance standards and procedures
  • Ensuring that vessels are SIRE ready at all times
  • Assist in scheduling of SIRE’s, and SIRE inspections
  • Perform incident investigations
  • Manage compliance with Company safety program
  • Prompt and correct response to operating situations
  • Recruitment, performance reviews and auditing of marine personnel
  • Develop and administer operating & cost control procedures on Company vessels
  • Perform inspections of vessels on repair & maintenance standards and procedures
  • Assist in new project development
  • Interface with customers on an ongoing basis
  • Operate company vessels as Captain if directed by President, Vice President, Director of Marine Operations, or General Manager
