About The Position

Flex is seeking an Injection Mold Design Engineer in Buffalo Grove, IL, to join their extraordinary teams. This role reports to the Design and Engineering Manager and is responsible for designing and engineering tooling protocols for molds, jigs, and fixtures to meet product specifications. The engineer will also be involved in designing and developing components, products, equipment, and systems. Requirements

  • At least 3 years of work experience in plastic injection molding.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in mold design.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in tool design / engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience interpreting layouts and drawings.
  • At least 3 years of experience in capacities analysis.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, e.g. Excel, etc.
  • Work experience from mold design / mold making and/or medical device manufacturing (or similar) companies.

Nice To Haves

  • Expert knowledge in injection plastic molding and tooling experience.
  • SolidWorks; Siemens/NX, and/or PRO-E.
  • Knowledge of medical validations.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer moderately complex tooling protocols for molds, jigs, and fixtures as per product specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews.
  • Perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) evaluation.
  • Implement cost effective tool design changes.
  • Collaborate with other team members on qualification, sampling, and final part approval.
  • Provide status reports as per established schedule.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation related to tool room equipment.
  • Assist in the design and development of engineering layouts, drawings, and documentation for components, assemblies, and subassemblies using CAD systems.
  • Collaborate in the development of new or modified designs.
  • Assist in establishing design standards and configurations, ensuring adherence to company standards and specifications.
  • Prepare ECOs and bills of materials that correspond to engineering drawings, ensuring accurate documentation and record-keeping.
  • Apply knowledge of design and engineering to recommend improvements to products and processes, contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
  • Perform engineering tests, checkouts, and development engineering tasks.
  • Diagnose malfunctions, analyze test results, and propose and implement changes to resolve problems.
  • Devise, fabricate, and assemble mechanical components or assemblies for various products.
  • Conduct tests on complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design and obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control.
  • Record test procedures, results, and recommendations for changes in product or test methods.
  • Maintain software, documentation, and equipment to the latest revision or operational specifications.
  • Assist engineers in developing and designing hardware and software required for testing customer products per their specifications.
  • Train technicians and operators on products, processes, and equipment, ensuring proper understanding and utilization.
