About The Position

With the growth of the Grid Solutions Integration NAM Region business portfolio and increased work scope and complexity of our customer projects, the Project Engineering Manager leads the multi-discipline technical project team and contractors while coordinating with vendors and professional customer interface. NAM GSI encompasses ACS, FACTS, Service, and HVDC Segments. GSI is under of GE Vernova’s electrification businesses, part of Grid Solutions. The Project Engineering Manager leads and coordinates the entire substation design and is accountable for their performance. The PEM performs detailed quality reviews, provides technical direction, and coordinates with the Project Manager for schedule and budget. The Portfolio Engineering Manager role is a hands-on role that may include detailed project design work. L’Ingénieur(e) de Projets Senior en conception de postes électriques haute tension joue un rôle de leader technique au sein des équipes d’ingénierie et est responsable de la bonne exécution des projets de conception de postes. Cela inclut la gestion du budget, de la planification et de la qualité. L’objectif principal est de planifier et de diriger la conception électrique de base et détaillée, de gérer et suivre l’avancement de l’exécution détaillée, et de coordonner les travaux de conception réalisés par d’autres disciplines et sous‑traitants. Le/la titulaire doit être capable d’effectuer lui‑même/elle‑même la conception électrique lorsque requis. Les travaux peuvent inclure des documents liés aux permis, à l’approvisionnement, à la fabrication et à la construction sur site. Il/elle suivra les exigences du client et sera conscient(e) des réglementations nationales applicables ainsi que des normes internes. Le/la Responsable Ingénieur(e) Projet est capable et disposé(e) à certifier les produits d’ingénierie finis comme corrects, incluant les examens et la validation d’un Ingénieur Professionnel. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 15 years of related experience
  • Holds a Professional Engineer license with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) and is willing to review and seal engineering documents in accordance with Québec regulations.
  • Must be committed to obtaining and maintaining the OIQ designation.
  • Fluent in French and in English, both spoken and written. The role requires communication with colleagues, suppliers, and customers internationally; bilingualism in French and English is mandatory.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time, including international, and must comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies
  • Have legal authorization to work in Canada and be aware that any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a pre-employment verification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience execution large and complex substation/plant projects
  • Detailed design experience for utility EPC High Voltage electrical substations in North America
  • Design experience with FACTS projects such as fixed series cap banks, synchronous condensers, and STATCOM.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the project technical leader/director to develop scope of work, plan schedule, budgets and monitor engineering activities and deliverables for customer projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and interface with Tendering, Cost Estimating, Partners, Customers, GE Product Engineering, EHS, Quality, Project Management Sourcing, Engineering sub-contractors.
  • This position is accountable to design all activities in compliance with all applicable codes and standards, including GE Grid Solutions policies and procedures—on time and on budget with high quality.
  • Knowledge of substation equipment and disciplines such as AIS & GIS, Circuit Breakers, Transformers, Disconnect Switches, Bus Design, P&C, and HV Electrical equipment application. Basic civil engineering design knowledge required.
  • In collaboration with Engineering teams, design or oversee the design of utility and industrial substation including power One line diagrams, station general arrangements, specifications and the application and installation of outdoor station equipment, buildings layout arrangements, auxiliary power, raceway design, and all related studies and calculations
  • Proposing and implementing an efficient reporting process to measure progress of engineering activities, on-time delivery of documents and answers to Customer comments
  • Manage technical risk. Propose and implement design strategy, design reviews, and safety reviews. Identify, track, and mitigate risk items.
  • Uses critical judgment to make decisions or solve complex tasks or problems in areas of technology or engineering.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with lesser experience. Explains difficult or sensitive information to stakeholders; works to build consensus.
  • Developing persuasion skills required to influence project team, customer, and stakeholders.
  • Identifying, alerting, and proposing corrective action plans to the project manager in case of any major deviation of scope, schedule, or budget
  • Develop processes and procedures for quality improvement and productivity
