About The Position

Hatch is looking for a Senior Ore Processing Engineer with recognized expertise in the design and optimization of concentrators for gold, copper, nickel, lithium, and other critical minerals, including rare earths. Reporting to the Global Director, Ore Processing, you will play a key role in the execution of complex mining projects in Canada and internationally. Based in our Montreal office, you will collaborate with a team of world-renowned experts and contribute to the development of innovative solutions promoting operational performance, sustainability, and decarbonization in the mining sector.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Metallurgical, Mining, or Materials Engineering.
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • Minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in ore processing and concentrator design.
  • Demonstrated expertise in processes applied to gold, copper, nickel, lithium, and other critical minerals.
  • Experience with mining studies, including conceptual, pre-feasibility, feasibility, and execution projects.
  • Solid experience with process simulation software such as SysCAD, METSIM, or equivalents.
  • Excellent technical leadership, communication, and client relations skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment.
  • Analytical mindset, innovative spirit, and ability to solve complex problems.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) required, both spoken and written.
  • Availability for occasional travel in Canada and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical expert in the design, optimization, and evaluation of ore processing methods.
  • Develop and recommend innovative process schemes for concentrators and metallurgical plants.
  • Provide technical leadership to project teams and participate in strategic process-related decisions.
  • Conduct technical reviews and ensure the quality of proposed solutions.
  • Oversee the preparation and validation of process diagrams, mass and energy balances, and design criteria.
  • Lead simulation activities using specialized software such as SysCAD, METSIM, or equivalents.
  • Coordinate the sizing and selection of process equipment.
  • Participate in the execution of conceptual, pre-feasibility, feasibility, and execution projects.
  • Conduct plant audits and analyze operational performance to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze operating data and recommend solutions to optimize metallurgical recovery, productivity, and energy efficiency.
  • Supervise metallurgical testing programs, pilot campaigns, and commissioning activities when required.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, environmental, automation, and construction teams.
  • Support project managers in work planning, schedule monitoring, and technical risk management.
  • Ensure effective integration of process solutions with other disciplines involved in projects.
  • Collaborate closely with clients to understand their needs and business objectives.
  • Participate in the preparation of technical proposals, fee estimates, and client presentations.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of sustainable business relationships.
  • Participate in identifying new growth opportunities for Hatch.
  • Mentor and support the development of more junior engineers and specialists.
  • Participate in knowledge sharing and continuous improvement of the global ore processing group's practices.
  • Contribute to Hatch's technical visibility through participation in conferences, publications, and industry initiatives.
