About The Position

AtkinsRéalis has a full-time opportunity for a Principal Electrical Engineer to build a career in the field of Electrical Grids, Transport and Distribution. The resource will report to our center of excellence in Montreal. The candidate will work in a dynamic consulting engineering environment with excellent opportunities for career advancement. The candidate will focus on electrical substations, both in high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technologies. Furthermore, this expertise will be applied to different types of projects, whether in substations, power plants, or renewable energy projects. Activities and deliverables in these areas will be varied, for example: network simulations, single-line diagrams, layout diagrams, equipment specifications, protection and control settings, techno-economic studies, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a recognized institution (Master's or Doctorate in a relevant field is an asset).
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the design or operation of high-voltage electrical substations or power plants, and their associated equipment.
  • Knowledge of various substation and power plant equipment technologies, particularly digital ones, and their impact on the electrical system's behavior.
  • Experience in the design and execution of electricity transmission and generation projects.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as IEC, IEEE, etc.
  • Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • The candidate is able to express themselves in French (oral and written) and English (oral).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in international projects is an asset.
  • Master's or Doctorate in a relevant field.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the design of installations, integrating safety and operational considerations.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed diagrams of installations (single-line diagrams, layout drawings, bill of materials, etc.).
  • Prepare performance specifications for the various assets found in these electrical installations.
  • Conduct various design studies or simulations (e.g., filter sizing, grounding, lightning protection, lighting, magnetic fields, noise, cable sizing, etc.).
  • Assist clients in selecting various technologies, whether old, current, or future, or digital or not.
  • Supervise installation, commissioning, and start-up.
  • Supervise factory acceptance tests as a client representative.
  • Travel occasionally to sites and perform measurements (e.g., noise, MALT resistance, harmonics, magnetic fields, protection settings).
  • Conduct ad hoc studies and analyses, at the request of clients.
