Ingénieur(e) mécanique / Mechanical Engineer

CienaQuebec, QC
CA$63,900 - CA$102,100

About The Position

As the global leader in high-speed connectivity, Ciena is committed to a people-first approach. Our teams enjoy a culture focused on prioritizing a flexible work environment that empowers individual growth, well-being, and belonging. We’re a technology company that leads with our humanity—driving our business priorities alongside meaningful social, community, and societal impact. Reporting to the senior manager of mechanical engineering, you will be a key player of the High-Speed Photonic Component (HSPC) group. More specifically, you will be responsible for designing various photonic components under development in the HSPC group. This will include doing mechanical, thermal and stresses modeling of the component, defining the specification in collaboration with the optical team, planning design of experiment, analyzing the results of these DOEs to confirm and optimize the design in order to meet the performance objectives. In this role, you will have to interact closely with the other members of the HSPC group and other internal R&D groups. This state-of-the-art environment, working to design the most efficient optical products in the world, will empower you and keep you at the forefront!

  • Fiber coupling to optical waveguides
  • Knowledge of reliability requirements of the telecommunication industry such as Telcordia
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing and assembly processes of optical components

Responsibilities

  • Develop a clear understanding of Ciena’s integrated photonic components to develop innovative new opto-mechanical designs
  • Work with both the RF design and optical chip design teams to define functional specifications and interface efficiently all design components
  • Plan design of experiment to ensure that all critical design parameters are met, while optimizing cost and assembly for high volume manufacturing
  • Monitor, document and communicate advancements and raise potential issues that may have influence on product functionality or target dates
  • Ensure the appropriate documentation is created
  • Participate and organize design reviews, ensure documentation and follow-up
  • Interact with other external groups (production ramp-up and operation groups) to transfer the developed design into a production environment
