About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Principal Hydraulic Engineer for a full-time position based in Montreal or Ottawa. The role will primarily contribute to projects involving hydroelectric power plants, pumped storage power plants, dams, and hydraulic structures. The incumbent may also support other business lines, including port infrastructure projects, civil engineering structures, and environmental initiatives.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources or Hydraulics.
Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
Minimum of 15 years of experience in hydraulic design of hydroelectric facilities, numerical flow modeling, and dam safety.
Good knowledge of HEC software suite.
Excellent technical report writing skills.
Excellent command of French, both spoken and written.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in Hydraulics or a related field.
20 years or more of relevant experience.
Proficiency in Flow-3D and Simsen software.
Bilingualism (French and English), required for mandates outside Quebec.
Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

Act as technical lead and take charge of discipline-related mandates, coordinating professionals and technical teams assigned to projects.
Prepare and write technical reports and calculation notes for various projects, including hydraulic studies and analyses, energy production simulations, transient flow analyses, and dam safety studies.
Conduct feasibility studies, preliminary designs, and detailed designs for hydroelectric facilities and pumped storage plants (powerhouses, dams, spillways, diversions, etc.), and occasionally for hydraulic structures (canals, bridges, etc.).
Perform numerical modeling of flows and dam break simulations (1D, 2D, and 3D models).
Ensure quality control of technical studies carried out by team members and supervise engineers.
