About The Position

Provides safe, accurate, and efficient patient care, including patient assessment, review of labs and vital signs, medication safety, dose verification, and drug administration. Follows all Job Breakdown Instructions (JBIs) associated with the role and provides triage care when necessary. Communicates patient condition effectively to multidisciplinary team members. Responsibilities include administering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care, and non-oncologic agents, following Oncology Nurse’s Society (ONS) standards and guidelines. Ensures accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste per OSHA and NIOSH guidelines. Responsible for new and ongoing patient education, continual patient assessment, and support. Requires thorough, accurate, and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), ensuring appropriate charges are captured and proper patient identification is used. Educates patients and caregivers about medications, side effects, and treatment plans, interacting in a caring and professional manner. Handles telephone triage, prioritizing calls and messages from various sources and responding appropriately. Assists with inventory and re-stocking of medical supplies, recommending new items as needed. Completes annual required safety and nursing trainings and attends mandatory staff meetings. Maintains confidentiality of all patient and employee information and assists in training new employees. Expected to work at any Company location and overtime as needed to meet business demands. Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations, and adheres to Company and departmental policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Nursing Degree
  • Unencumbered RN License in state of employment or multi-state license
  • Current CPR and BLS certifications
  • Valid Driver’s License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed
  • Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital setting
  • Ability to assess patient needs and condition is essential.
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Fluency in the English language with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook required.
  • EMR proficiency

  • Second language is an asset but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Use Oncology Nurse’s Society (ONS) standards and guidelines.
  • Accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste, per OSHA and NIOSH guidelines.
  • Provide new and ongoing patient education, continual patient assessment, and support.
  • Thorough, accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of treatment rendered to patients.
  • Ensure appropriate charges are captured by following guidelines for appropriate administration of all medications and activities.
  • Follow proper patient identification per JBI for all patient encounters.
  • Educate patients and caregivers about medications, side effects and planned treatment course.
  • Interact with patient and family in a caring, professional manner.
  • Prioritize incoming calls and messages from patients, family members, hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies, and physician offices from emergent to non-urgent.
  • Respond accordingly in an appropriate time frame.
  • Assist with inventory and re-stocking of medical supplies, recommend purchase of new items as needed.
  • Place stock in storage areas in a timely manner.
  • Complete annual required safety and nursing trainings.
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings as necessary.
  • Always maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
  • Assist in training new employees related to job duties according to JBIs.
  • Work at any Company location to help meet the Company’s business needs on an as-needed basis, within reasonable expectations.
  • Work overtime when given sufficient notice.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient’s rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law.
  • Adhere to Company and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Plan.

Benefits

  • Pay Range: $24.83 - $46.12
