About The Position

Inova Schar Cancer Institute is seeking an Oncology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in Woodbridge to join their team. This role involves triaging and managing oncology and hematology patients as part of a collaborative team, providing counseling to patients and families, performing physical examinations, and working with referring providers and the patient's care team to ensure optimal outcomes. Requirements

  • Master’s in advanced clinical Practice or graduate of a post master's certificate program for nurse practitioners, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing. For physician Assistants, graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start
  • Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
  • If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License (depending on State of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/ supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances)
  • Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors and Ability to enrolled as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor
  • Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years’ Advanced Practice Oncology experience preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Conducts in-depth interviews with patients, constructs comprehensive medical histories, performs physical examinations, and explores patient's interpretation of health needs as it relates to their diagnoses.
  • Ensure patient information, visit history, refer outs, lab follow-up, phone calls, and consults are carefully and completely documented in the electronic medical record.
  • Evaluates and manages patients with urgent complaints determines appropriate patient disposition including escalating to hospital-based care when necessary.
  • Evaluates infusion patients as they receive treatments in to include management of infusion related reactions and acute treatment-related side effects
  • Directly performs or orders appropriate diagnostic studies and interprets finished results.
  • Instructs and counsels patients and families regarding preventive care, medical problems, psychological problems, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
  • Writes orders to increase, decrease or change medications.
  • Identifies and records pertinent progress of patients, updating and summarizing charts, changing orders when appropriate and notifying the responsible provider of changes in the patient's condition.
  • Educates/coaches fellow staff members including RNs and clinical technicians
