About The Position

Manages individualized, goal directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. This role involves assessing and diagnosing patient and family needs, developing and communicating plans of care, implementing medical plans and nursing interventions, and evaluating patient responses to ensure quality care. The position also requires maintaining accurate documentation, staying current with knowledge and certifications, pursuing professional growth, and functioning as a role model for staff. The nurse must attend required safety training, follow exposure control plans, and demonstrate respect for all individuals. Collaboration with colleagues and participation in unit activities are essential. Specific duties include assuming responsibility for daily personnel, patient care, and unit activities, attending mandatory meetings and in-services, completing chart audits, and actively participating in Quality activities.

Requirements

ACLS and BLS Certification
Current License in the State of Michigan
Chemotherapy Certification and/or be able to obtain within 45 days of hire
Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge and skills.
Willingness to crossflow to other clinical areas as needed and/or directed by leadership
Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
Attends continuing education programs in order to maintain licensure

Responsibilities

Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients.
Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/family/significant other in order to address all identified needs.
Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
Evaluates the identified problems, care provided and patient's responses are reassessed in order to meet patient and family needs to assure overall quality of care delivered.
Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the health care team, in order to ensure quality care.
Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.
Pursues professional growth and development.
Functions as a role model for current and new staff.
Demonstrates leadership behaviors in a professional manner.
Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards.
Follows the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and interdepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
Assumes responsibility for daily personnel assignment/monitoring patient care and overall unit activities in accordance with established standards.
Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
Attendance at annual skills presentation and other mandatory meetings/in-services (fire, infection control).
Attends regularly scheduled unit meetings.
Completed 12 chart audits per year
Actively participates in Quality activities.
