About The Position

CodeMettle is seeking an Infrastructure Support Engineer to join their growing team. This role is crucial for building, operating, and supporting the systems that enable all teams to accelerate the flow of value to customers. As the first line of support for internal engineering platforms, the Infrastructure Support Engineer will keep developers productive by responding to requests, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining the tools teams rely on daily. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside and learn from DevOps engineers, growing skills in automation, containerized deployments, networking, and enterprise infrastructure software. The role involves providing first-line technical support, creating and maintaining documentation, operating and maintaining infrastructure "as code", supporting software development pipelines, automating repetitive tasks, and ensuring hardware and lab equipment are functional.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field, OR at least 2-4 years of relevant experience in IT support, help desk, systems administration, or DevOps.
  • Working knowledge of Linux and basic networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls).
  • Basic scripting experience in Bash, Python, PowerShell, or similar.
  • Willingness to administer and support applications and systems used by multiple teams.
  • Customer-service mindset with patience and a genuine interest in helping others.
  • Must be self-motivated, proactive and curious.
  • Must be an effective problem solver.
  • Must build and maintain good working relationships through effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work in the CodeMettle office on hardware and maintain equipment as needed.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required to access CodeMettle systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to and willingness to work with Golang, Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Scala development tooling and processes.
  • Exposure to infrastructure as code (IaC) in the form of Ansible and Terraform.
  • Exposure to containers (Docker, Kubernetes), version control (Git), and CI / CD concepts.
  • Experience working with a ticketing or help desk system.
  • Technical certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Linux+, or CKA) are a plus.
  • Hands-on exposure to Linux, networking fundamentals, and scripting, whether through coursework, internships, a home lab, or professional experience.
  • Enjoy self-hosting and tinkering with networking and Linux administration.
  • Enjoy helping people solve technical problems and take ownership of seeing an issue through to resolution.
  • Ability to explain technical issues clearly, in writing and in conversation, to people with different levels of expertise.
  • Methodical troubleshooter who can break a problem down, gather the right information, and know when to escalate.
  • Eager to learn current DevOps tooling, patterns, and principles, and to grow into designing and building systems yourself.
  • Effectively contribute and collaborate with multiple types of cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line technical support to internal engineers, responding to support tickets and messages regarding services like GitLab, Nexus, and build environments.
  • Triage issues, resolve them where possible, and escalate unresolved issues with clear notes.
  • Create and maintain documentation, including how-to guides, runbooks, and FAQs, to improve engineer self-service.
  • Assist with operating and maintaining infrastructure, applications, and tooling "as code", including installing, upgrading, patching, and monitoring systems like Kubernetes, git servers, and artifact repositories.
  • Support and improve software development pipelines by troubleshooting failed builds and deployments, managing user access and permissions, and making incremental improvements to CI/CD pipelines.
  • Identify repetitive tasks and automate them through scripting, such as account provisioning or environment resets.
  • Set up, image, and maintain workstations, servers, and network equipment in the CodeMettle office and lab.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for internal support requests related to DevOps infrastructure, tools, and services.
  • Help operate and maintain infrastructure, applications, and services supporting software development Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD), testing, security, artifact management, and network/device simulation.
  • Manage user accounts, access, and permissions across development tools and platforms.
  • Monitor system health, respond to alerts, and assist with routine maintenance, patching, upgrades, and backups.
  • Help product and engineering teams leverage the self-service capabilities of the DevOps infrastructure.
  • Work alongside security, engineering, and operations teams to maintain shared systems.
  • Contribute to automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) efforts.
  • Learn from senior engineers and stay current on DevOps tools, trends, and best practices.
