The GTS Infrastructure and Engineering Development Program is a 12-month, in-person development experience for early-career technology talent. It begins with a three-week onboarding bootcamp, after which each associate joins a Global Technology Services (GTS) team for the rest of the program. Associates take ownership of real project work from day one, supported by a formal mentor and experienced technologists. The cohort-based program builds community across locations and disciplines and concludes with placement into a GTS role. The program prepares associates to support AI-enabled IT and technology services. Its approach emphasizes operating and automating services at enterprise scale, translating business needs into technology outputs, and using AI as a default part of work. Assignments are determined by business needs, program requirements, and available opportunities rather than by associate-selected tracks. Potential work areas include AIOps and AI for IT Operations; automation, DevOps and tooling; infrastructure and cloud operations; site reliability engineering, observability and resiliency; and identity, access and employee experience. Work may involve AI agents and model evaluation, automation and CI/CD, cloud and data center operations, infrastructure as code, Python automation, observability and IT service management, network engineering, identity and access management, and developer productivity. The program is intended for AI-enabled IT and technology services disciplines; candidates pursuing software engineering or AI/ML engineering careers are directed to Optum's Technology Development Program.
