About The Position

Medical Mutual is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer (Site Reliability Engineer) to join their team. This is a hybrid position located in Brooklyn, OH or Dublin, OH, requiring three days per week onsite. The role involves various aspects of infrastructure engineering, including automation, capacity management, monitoring, scalability, and incident response, with off-hours on-call support. The engineer will also assist in implementing new technologies to replace legacy systems and processes. Medical Mutual, founded in 1934, is a leading health insurance company in Ohio, providing a range of insurance plans to over 1.2 million members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Exposure to CI/CD (Azure DevOps, GitLab, Jenkins, etc.), Infrastructure as Code and other modern IT practices.
  • Exposure to containerization (Kubernetes, Docker, TKGI, etc.).
  • Intellectual curiosity, eagerness to learn and strong critical thinking.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a time-critical production environment.
  • 2+ years of combined experience with operating system concepts, analysis, networking and/or cloud systems (for Engineer II).
  • Experience analyzing and troubleshooting systems.
  • Exposure to automated configuration management, provisioning, deployment or orchestration (Ansible, Azure Resource Manager, Terraform, Chef, Puppet, etc.) (for Engineer II).
  • 4+ years of combined experience with operating system concepts, analysis, networking and/or cloud systems (for Engineer III).
  • Experience developing and implementing software oriented towards systems or network automation (for Engineer III).
  • 6+ years of combined in-depth experience with operating system architecture, design, concepts, analysis, networking and/or cloud systems (for Engineer IV).
  • 3+ years of experience designing and developing software oriented towards systems or network automation (for Engineer IV).
  • Demonstrated familiarity with DevOps and SRE practices (for Engineer IV).
  • Experience designing enterprise systems incorporating the appropriate balance of performance, cost, availability, redundancy, fault tolerance, availability, security and other factors (for Engineer IV).
  • 3+ years of experience with CI/CD (Azure DevOps, GitLab, Jenkins, etc.), Infrastructure as Code and other modern IT practices (for Engineer IV).
  • 3+ years of combined experience in automated configuration management, provisioning, deployment or orchestration (Ansible, Azure Resource Manager, Terraform, Chef, Puppet, etc.) (for Engineer IV).
  • Exposure to an IT platform-as-product approach combining Product Management, Agile, DevOps and SRE practices (for Engineer IV).

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certifications or equivalent knowledge/experience preferred but not required, in the following domains: VMWare/Virtualization, Converged Infrastructure, Cloud Computing (Azure, AWS), Programming/Scripting (PowerShell, Python, Go, etc.), Citrix, Security, etc. (for Engineer II).
  • VMWare/Virtualization, Converged Infrastructure, Cloud Computing (Azure, AWS), Programming/Scripting (PowerShell, Python, Go, etc.), Citrix, Security, etc. (for Engineer III).
  • Technical certifications or equivalent knowledge/experience in the following domains: VMWare/Virtualization, Converged Infrastructure, Cloud Computing (Azure, AWS), Programming/Scripting (PowerShell, Python, Go, etc.), Citrix, Security, etc. (for Engineer IV).

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and reports on the user experience.
  • Responds to production incidents, conducts postmortems, and acts to prevent recurrence of known problems.
  • Assists with the day-to-day system maintenance and operations.
  • Supports production as part of a 24x7 on-call rotation.
  • Utilizes automation to reduce inefficiencies and eliminate toil to improve the reliability of Medical Mutual’s systems.
  • Mentors junior engineers.
  • Diagnoses availability, latency, and performance issues; making improvements in code and configuration to meet SLAs/SLOs with minimal manual intervention.
  • Influences and guides engineering and operations teams to implement SRE principles and practices while ensuring architectural and security standards are met.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
