Infrastructure Engineer

Alt Platform Inc•New York, NY
•$200,000 - $250,000•Remote

About The Position

Alt is hiring its first dedicated Infrastructure Engineer to own and improve the platform its engineering team builds on. The role leads Alt’s cloud infrastructure, developer environments, and observability, with the goal of making engineering faster, more reliable, and more cost-efficient. This is a foundational position shaping how Alt operates as an AI-native engineering organization, including the environments AI agents use and the deployment pipelines engineers rely on. The engineer will take end-to-end ownership of Alt’s AWS footprint; create reproducible, isolated, production-like environments for engineers and AI agents; improve the reliability and representativeness of staging; bring infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD under control; and lead observability and incident response improvements. As a platform leader for a growing engineering team, this person will establish practices and raise the organization’s capabilities through documentation, tooling, code reviews, and mentorship.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of infrastructure, platform, or site reliability engineering experience.
  • Deep AWS expertise, including ECS, RDS/Aurora, EC2, ALB, IAM, and CloudFormation or Terraform.
  • A track record of owning and improving CI/CD pipelines, deployment infrastructure, and developer tooling at a growing company.
  • Experience building or managing non-production environments, such as staging or ephemeral environments, or seed-data systems.
  • Experience instrumenting systems, building dashboards, and improving incident response.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, including writing documentation, asking thoughtful questions, and giving constructive feedback.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cost optimization at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Own Alt’s AWS infrastructure, including right-sizing resources, de-provisioning orphaned services, implementing resource tagging, and providing cloud-cost visibility.
  • Build reproducible, isolated, production-like environments on demand for engineers and AI agents, including database cloning, per-branch services, routing, seed data, and automatic teardown.
  • Make non-production environments reliable and representative, reducing the need to test in production or manually create test data and work around flaky search infrastructure.
  • Address infrastructure-as-code drift, build CI/CD automation, and ensure infrastructure changes are safe and reviewable.
  • Own observability and incident response by rationalizing monitoring, improving alerting, and detecting issues before they affect users.
  • Define the infrastructure roadmap, make trade-off decisions, and own infrastructure and developer-experience outcomes.
  • Improve the engineering organization through documentation, tooling, code reviews, and mentorship.

Benefits

  • The company covers 85% of employees’ medical, dental, and vision coverage, and up to 50% for dependents.
  • HSA/FSA available.
  • Generous paid time off.
  • Parental leave at full salary.
  • $200 per month wellness stipend.
  • $100 per month home office stipend.
