Design Infrastructure Engineer (EDA & Test)

WaveWorks Technologies Inc•Seattle, WA
•Onsite

About The Position

WaveWorks is seeking a strong software and systems engineer to own the engineering environment for its silicon team. This environment is built on Synopsys, Cadence, and Siemens EDA tool suites, along with other EDA and lab tools. The role encompasses the software, compute, EDA, data, and automation infrastructure essential for chip design, bring-up, characterization, and test. The primary goal is to establish a reliable, reproducible, and scalable engineering environment that functions like a mature production system, relieving IC designers of infrastructure-related tasks. The successful candidate will have the authority to direct information and IT infrastructure for a complex, deep-stack technology startup building a multi-faceted platform. This is a technical ownership role for the systems supporting analog, digital, and verification designers, and a software generalist resource for the silicon team. While EDA tools are the initial priority, the scope is intentionally broad.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field plus 3 or more years of software or systems engineering experience, or an MS plus 1 or more years.
  • Strong software engineering skills in Python and at least one other language, with a proven record of building and maintaining tools relied upon by other engineers.
  • Expert use of Git and version-control workflows, including repository administration.
  • Deep Linux systems administration experience: servers, storage, networking, user and access management, and scripting.
  • DevOps practices: configuration management, reproducible environments, containers, CI, and automation of repetitive tasks.
  • Daily, effective use of AI coding agents and assistants in engineering work.
  • High autonomy and breadth: ability to take ownership of undefined problems and deliver solutions without close direction.
  • Enjoyment in building critical infrastructure and a desire to own it.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience administering Synopsys, Cadence, or Siemens EDA tools, including license servers and design-environment setup.
  • Familiarity with IC design flows, PDKs, and design data management.
  • Lab automation and instrument control for semiconductor bring-up or characterization.
  • Data engineering and statistical analysis of large test data sets.
  • Experience working with EDA or other technical vendors on support and escalation.
  • Firmware or embedded software experience.
  • Experience working at a semiconductor or hardware startup.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain Synopsys, Cadence, and Siemens EDA tool suites, their license servers, and other EDA tools, ensuring they work together reliably within the design environment.
  • Own the knowledge of the design environment's assembly and document it to reduce dependency on individual designers.
  • Open and track support tickets, reproduce and report failures, coordinate with vendors, and drive issues to closure.
  • Manage engineering workstations, compute servers, shared storage, and access control.
  • Build reproducible development environments, software deployment, and automation, including CI-style workflows for design and test.
  • Build bench-test automation and instrument-control software for silicon bring-up and characterization.
  • Develop the pipeline for test data, including acquisition, experiment metadata, parsing, storage, statistical analysis, plotting, and reports.
  • Create regression and automated test suites, along with tools for comparing results across devices, lots, temperatures, configurations, and silicon revisions.
  • Organize design files, test data, generated artifacts, and technical documentation for predictable storage, versioning, searchability, metadata tagging, and accessibility.
  • Own version control across engineering, including Git for software, scripts, and configuration, and design data management for design libraries and PDKs, establishing team-wide practices for branching, release, and access.
  • Structure engineering data to facilitate future analysis and automation.
  • Write internal tools, scripts, data pipelines, hardware-control software, and build tooling required by the silicon team, including one-off solutions to unblock hardware engineers.
  • Utilize AI coding agents and modern tools as a standard practice to rapidly build internal software and eliminate recurring manual overhead.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees.
