About The Position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a fast paced technology company and a leader in the world of Cloud Computing. We are currently expanding our decommissioning team and are looking for a proven network and cable decommissioning technician with experience in robust technical understanding of network and infrastructure. The Network & Cable Decommissioning team (NCD) are looking to hire a highly motivated, self-driven decommissioning technician who will work closely with project managers, network engineers, and operations teams to recover rack space, power, remove cabling infrastructure, and sanitize legacy network equipment. The NCD Tech will be responsible for executing assigned efforts and communicating status updates of those task.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of computer networking experience
  • 1+ years of Linux operating systems experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Experience in computer networking
  • Experience working with Linux operating systems
  • Can lift and rack equipment up to 40 pounds
  • Experience with computer hardware troubleshooting and repair
  • 2+ years of knowledge of network and cabling, optic types, and test equipment
  • 2+ years of experience with network and cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies
  • 2+ years of experience coordinating workload and priorities through ticketing system and/or system-driven workflow

  • Can work in cramped spaces or in elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines
  • Experience dealing effectively with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure
  • Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system
  • Experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies
  • Experience working in a data center environment (racking and stacking gear, cable management, hot/cold aisle containment)
  • 2+ years of experience with data networking in datacenter environment
  • 2+ years of experience with installation and removal of equipment from datacentre racks/cabinets
  • 5+ years of experience with cabling in datacenter environment, including cable management and install/removal in production environment
  • 2+ years of experience troubleshooting cabling infrastructure connectivity issues, including patch panels/FDP/ODF
  • 2+ years of experience in lead technician role

Responsibilities

  • Physical Decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure in a Data Center environment.
  • Manage assigned work and priorities through ticketing system and/or workflows.
  • Provide status updates to Stakeholder via ticketing system.
  • Effectively co-ordinate and deliver multiple tasks congruently.
  • Exhibit quality workmanship on all work and maintain Data Center cleanliness.
  • Effectively leverage the logical tools and systems that are provided.
  • Follow all production, safety and quality standards, codes and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with various Stakeholders to remove obstacles.
  • Read and comprehend datacenter build documentation, and site specific layout material.
  • Travel within geographical work area is required, up to 25% travel outside traditional work area may be required depending on your primary region.
  • Scope effort assigned, validate all work is ready for decommissioning, create change requests to perform work, and timely execute effort that has been assigned.
  • All efforts need to be documented via ticketing system.
  • Provide structured feedback/updates to Stakeholders via ticketing system and/or messaging channels.
  • Deliver sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes, always with an eye on improvement.
