About The Position

This position assists in the daily operation and maintenance of County Information Technology equipment and infrastructure. It also provides support for staff computer and software applications, as needed. The role involves administering and supporting the Information Technology (IT) systems and functions of County government, performing daily operations of personal computers and peripheral equipment, and troubleshooting issues via a Help Desk ticketing system. The specialist will also manage backups, maintain equipment, recommend IT system changes, assist with ordering supplies and coordinating maintenance, and help maintain County IT policies including Disaster Recovery, contingency plans, Computer Usage Policies, and Document Retention Policies. Additionally, the role involves providing information and training to County employees on IT equipment, attending training and conferences, troubleshooting and maintaining County computer networks and physical networks (desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, projectors, etc.), and adhering to purchasing laws and policies. A hardware and software inventory must be maintained, and approved hardware and software installed and ensured to be operating correctly. Recommendations for repair or replacement of defective/outdated equipment will be made. Applicants must disclose conflicts of interest and abide by the Governmental Conduct Act.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent recognized certificate.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience with PC’s, network & server management required.
  • Experience with network components, including managed wireless access points, software-based VPNs, firewalls, managed network switches, network attached storage, backup environments and other devices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite(s) or their equivalent such as Google Workspace and a basic understanding of the operation on different software packages.
  • Proficiency in Active Directory Management/Maintenance.
  • Experience with Windows Server software & hardware administration, configuration and maintenance.
  • Valid New Mexico State Driver’s License.
  • Must have a good driving record to be insurable for liability purposes.
  • Possess good organizational skills.
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and provide support to the Information Technology (IT) systems and functions of County government.
  • Perform or assist with daily operations of personal computers and peripheral equipment, prioritizing work via the Help Desk ticketing system.
  • Perform or assist with daily computer activity such as trouble-shooting, locating and overcoming error conditions, managing back-ups, and maintaining equipment.
  • Assist in recommending changes in programs, routines, and quality control standards and IT systems.
  • Assist in ordering of supplies related to IT and coordinate/schedule maintenance for IT equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining and administering all County policies relating to the Information Technology systems.
  • Assist in providing information and training to County employees on operations of IT equipment.
  • Attend training schools and conferences to update information and skills.
  • Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on all County computer networks and physical networks.
  • Follow State of New Mexico Purchasing and Procurement laws, County Purchasing Policy and grant agreements in making purchases, transferring and disposing of assets.
  • Maintain a hardware and software inventory for all IT devices.
  • Install approved hardware and software in County personal computers and ensure they are operating correctly.
  • Troubleshoot County computer equipment and make recommendations for repair or replacement of defective/outdated equipment.
