Sonoma County Library Announces an Employment Opportunity INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST / NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR – HEADQUARTERS 40 HOURS PER WEEK – FULL-TIME We are seeking a skilled and service-oriented Information Technology Specialist / Network Administrator to support the technology infrastructure that enables exceptional library services for staff and the community. The ideal candidate will be an experienced IT professional with expertise in network administration, security, systems support, and troubleshooting, along with a strong commitment to customer service, problem-solving, and delivering reliable technology solutions that meet the needs of Sonoma County Library staff and the communities we serve. In addition to supporting existing technology systems, the ideal candidate will play a key role in the planning, design, and implementation of technology infrastructure for upcoming library construction, renovation, and capital improvement projects, including the new Library Headquarters facility and future library renovations. This includes collaborating with library stakeholders, contractors, and project teams to ensure that network, telecommunications, wireless, security, and technology infrastructure requirements are integrated into building designs and support the Library’s long-term operational and service goals. ABOUT THE POSITION: Under the general direction of the Information Technology Manager, the Information Technology Specialist / Network Administrator serves as a technical specialist responsible for the design, administration, security, and ongoing support of the library’s technology infrastructure. This position provides excellent customer service while overseeing network systems, servers, and related hardware and software. The Information Technology Specialist / Network Administrator plans, designs, tests, installs, troubleshoots, and maintains complex computer networks and systems; supports technology projects and upgrades; and evaluates and recommends improvements. The position plays a key role in ensuring dependable technology services for library operations, staff productivity, and public access to information. The position also serves as a technical lead and subject matter expert for technology infrastructure associated with new construction and facility improvement projects. Responsibilities include participating in facility planning and design meetings; developing network, structured cabling, wireless, and telecommunications requirements; reviewing architectural and engineering plans; coordinating with vendors and contractors; and ensuring that new facilities are designed with scalable, secure, and resilient technology systems that support current and future library services. Requirements

Equivalent to an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or related field and four (4) years of experience providing technical support to users of complex, multiplatform technology systems, at least two (2) of which must have included network management or system analysis.
Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver License.

Responsibilities

Researches, installs, configures, and maintains all network hardware and software, including switches, routers, and firewalls, for functionality and security.
Manages network architecture, including local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) technologies.
Manages multiple servers, workstations, and terminals, ensuring proper integration of these components with existing system architecture.
Implements new systems, programs, and hardware and software upgrades; supports technical requirements of software for users; identifies, analyzes, and resolves software and network problems.
Coordinates projects, personnel, and systems to facilitate access to the library’s inter-networked computer systems; provides adequate, smooth, and efficient computer data network services for library staff and users; receives, prioritizes, and coordinates responses to work orders; estimates and provides adequate materials, equipment, and staff needed.
Maintains and troubleshoots networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational problems; provides advice and consultation to management on the operation of telecommunication and network systems; assesses systems and makes recommendations for improvements.
Troubleshoots network connectivity problems; monitors the performance of the network system; tracks possible problem areas affecting response time and prepares recommendations for correction of problems and improvement in performance.
May provide direction to information technology support staff; may assist with scheduling and assignment of work and review work upon completion for quality control purposes.
Plans, coordinates, and administers the library’s telecommunication systems.
Designs, configures, installs, replaces, repairs, and maintains various computer networks and hardware; installs and replaces wiring and wireless systems.
Creates email boxes for users and departments; troubleshoots email connection, access, security, firewall, and storage issues; maintains the active directory of users by adding, removing, and/or editing users; creates access rights to users and user groups; creates groups and mailing lists.
Reviews and manages inventory levels of network and technology supplies and equipment; conducts product and vendor research; reviews, coordinates, and authorizes minor purchases; makes decisions about when to retire particular computer models, may recommend major software and equipment acquisitions and upgrades.
Confers with vendors to obtain information, resolve problems, arrange and conduct demonstrations and evaluations; orders repair parts, supplies, and documentation.
Communicates orally, in writing, or through graphic representations and statistical summaries with library staff and users.
Performs other duties as assigned.
