About The Position

The Digital Accessibility Engineering team at UIC is seeking Extra Help AI Enablement Managers to advance Open-Source accessibility tooling and level up AI assisted operations across the team. In this role, you will provide technical leadership, project oversight, and strategic guidance for the development and enhancement of Equalify Reflow, an Open-Source solution for converting PDFs into accessible documents. Our goal is ambitious and measurable: process 200,000 UIC PDFs with a failure rate under 20%. Beyond Reflow, AI Enablement Managers will help manage the Open-Source projects that the Digital Accessibility Engineering team contributes to and will provide training and support that strengthen AI assisted workflows throughout the team.

Requirements

Any one or any combination totaling 5 years (60 months) from the following categories: A. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT Systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent: § 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months) § Associate’s degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months) § 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months) § Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months) B. Work experience in IT-related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field, which includes supervisory or lead worker capacity.
Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position may be required.

Nice To Haves

Experience contributing to or maintaining Open-Source software
Working knowledge of AI tooling, including large language models and agentic workflows

Responsibilities

Lead the development, management, and continuous improvement of Equalify Reflow, supporting the goal of processing 200,000 UIC PDFs with a failure rate under 20%
Contribute to the maintenance of Open-Source projects supported by the Digital Accessibility Engineering team
Lead the execution of Digital Accessibility Engineering projects by setting priorities, coordinating team efforts, making key implementation decisions, and ensuring deliverables are completed effectively and aligned with organizational goals.
Monitor project progress, identify areas for improvement, and recommend solutions to meet team objectives
Oversee and support team performance by assigning and reviewing work, establishing project priorities, providing direction on implementation approaches, and maintaining accountability for high-quality project outcomes and deliverables.
Provide guidance, training, and technical support to Digital Accessibility team members adopting AI assisted operations
Create and maintain documentation of workflows, decisions, and findings so the Open-Source community can build on your work
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and the broader Open-Source community to improve accessibility tools and solutions.
Participate in team meetings and contribute to process improvement efforts.
Perform other related duties to support the mission and goals of UIC’s digital accessibility services and initiatives.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
