About The Position

The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking an Information Technology Intern to provide information technology (IT) application and equipment support. This position supports the entire department; however, most of the work will be supporting the Athletic and Facility Services (AFS) and Community Recreation (CRD) divisions. Specific tasks and percentage of time spent on types of work will evolve as solutions and business needs change. Arlington County is an innovative local government in Northern Virginia seeking motivated candidates for one-year internship opportunities across multiple departments. These roles are ideal for recent graduates and current graduate students with limited professional experience who are looking to kickstart their careers. Throughout the duration of employment, interns work under the mentorship of senior staff, contributing fresh ideas, improving processes, and leveraging technology to enhance organizational effectiveness, all while familiarizing themselves with a public-sector environment.

Requirements

  • Completion of at least two years (60 semester hours) in a Bachelor’s degree program prior to the start date of the internship.
  • Information Technology or related discipline.
  • Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid driver’s license, and must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of official driving record.
  • Alternatively, the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite.

Nice To Haves

  • G.P.A. of 3.0 or above
  • Configuring Microsoft Windows desktop and laptop computers
  • Using Microsoft Excel, including writing basic formulas and creating pivot tables/charts
  • Using Power BI
  • Understanding of relational database design

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the replacement and distribution of desktops, laptops, and other computer peripherals
  • Assisting with verifying and updating DPR's asset inventory
  • Assisting with data cleanup in our Recreation Management System (RecTrac)
  • Generating reports using Microsoft Excel and Power BI to support data analysis and decision-making by department leadership
