About The Position

The Information Technology Consultant 2 position is within the Finance and Administrative Shared Services (FASS) IT group, which is a strategic shared services hub supporting departments within the Vice President of Finance and Administration's portfolio and the President's portfolio. The FASS IT mission focuses on customer service combined with technology and process competency, providing services such as IT strategy, business continuity, system/data backup/recovery, hardware lifecycle management/procurement, consultation for unit software/hardware needs, desktop support, system and software support, project management for software implementation and upgrades, decision support and reporting, communication with Information Services, liaison with other University service providers, and printing/printing contract management. This specific role will manage and provide recommendations for the software and hardware needs of customers including the University of Oregon Police Department, Safety and Risk Services Leadership, FASS, and Utilities and Energy units. The incumbent will be the technical lead for client-side software and hardware, evaluating new products, and making recommendations to unit leadership. They will also lead auditing and maintaining physical device inventory, and determine appropriate tools for inventory management and device/software deployment. The position requires diagnosing complex technical issues, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, self-direction, and the ability to work under pressure. Communication of technical information to non-technical users is essential, as is aiding users in becoming self-reliant. Interactions occur daily with students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors, with frequent interactions with campus stakeholders. The position will communicate and coordinate with University partners, peers within FASS IT, University Information Services, and 3rd party vendors. On occasion, the position may be required to organize and coordinate the work of internal and 3rd-party resources. The position will supervise one to three student workers. Decisions are made within broad parameters, considering cost vs. benefit. The incumbent is expected to stay current with new software and hardware technologies and will be responsible for developing guidelines and standards for FASS IT, University information systems, UOPD, and DPSST. The position reports to the Director of IT for Finance and Administration Shared Services, and work is reviewed regularly by the Director and unit Directors/managers served by FASS IT. This unit may provide essential services during emergencies, and this position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.

Requirements

  • AA degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study.
  • At least one year of related work experience.
  • Initial CJIS clearance must be completed within 60 days of hire.
  • Must successfully pass an in-depth law enforcement background check.
  • Must submit fingerprints to obtain a FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) security clearance.
  • Must complete and maintain Level 4 CJIS Security Awareness Training.

Nice To Haves

  • If using equivalent experience to meet minimum qualifications, preference will be given to candidates who have an associate’s degree or higher.
  • Knowledge of imaging and deployment of machines in an enterprise environment.
  • Knowledge of Windows and virtualized systems administration concepts and best practices in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in Windows scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, LDAP, Group Policy Management, and WSUS patch management concepts and best practices.
