About The Position

The Finance and Administrative Shared Services (FASS) Information Technology (IT) group is seeking an Information Technology Consultant 2. This position is responsible for managing and recommending software and hardware solutions for clients within Finance and Administration Shared Services IT, including the University of Oregon Police Department, Safety and Risk Services Leadership, FASS, and Utilities and Energy units. The role involves acting as the technical lead for client-side software and hardware, evaluating new products, and making recommendations to unit leadership across multiple platforms, considering resource limitations. Key responsibilities include leading the auditing and maintenance of physical device inventory, determining appropriate tools for inventory management and device/software deployment, imaging and deploying user device hardware, managing device lifecycle and inventory, handling conference room hardware, installing and configuring software, managing software license renewals, liaising with Information Services User Support Services, managing user accounts and permissions, and providing training and documentation. The incumbent will diagnose complex technical issues, requiring strong analytical and problem-solving skills. They must be self-directed, able to prioritize tasks, and work effectively under pressure. Communication of technical information to non-technical users is essential, as is aiding users in becoming self-reliant. The position involves frequent interactions with campus stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors, as well as coordination with University partners and third-party vendors. The role may involve organizing and coordinating internal and external resources for projects and problem resolution, and supervising one to three student workers. Decisions are made within broad parameters, balancing cost and benefit, and include setting priorities and assessing customer needs. The position will participate in procurement and other decision-making activities with financial implications. Staying current with new technologies is expected, and the incumbent will develop guidelines and standards for FASS IT, University information systems, UOPD, and DPSST.

Requirements

  • AA degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified course work in applicable fields of study.
  • At least one year of related work experience.
  • Initial CJIS clearance must be completed within 60 days of hire.
  • Must successfully pass an in-depth law enforcement background check.
  • Must submit fingerprints to obtain a FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) security clearance.
  • Must complete and maintain Level 4 CJIS Security Awareness Training.

Nice To Haves

  • If using equivalent experience to meet minimum qualifications, preference will be given to candidates who have an associate’s degree or higher.
  • Knowledge of imaging and deployment of machines in an enterprise environment.
  • Knowledge of Windows and virtualized systems administration concepts and best practices in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in Windows scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, LDAP, Group Policy Management, and WSUS patch management concepts and best practices.
