About The Position

As the Information System Security Officer (ISSO), you will provide support for NAVAIR's new Simulators at Sea (S@S) system. This role involves ensuring cybersecurity compliance, maintaining system accreditation, and safeguarding mission-critical Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training systems operating in both shore-based and maritime environments. The ISSO will play a key role in enabling secure, integrated warfighting readiness across distributed training architectures. This system increases aviator readiness and is the first integrated training capability for an air wing to deploy on a Navy carrier. Get in on the ground floor of an exciting DoD initiative!

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of related Information Assurance/Cybersecurity (IA/CS) experience, required
  • Strong knowledge of RMF, ATO processes, and DoD cybersecurity controls (NIST 800-53)
  • Experience with vulnerability management tools (e.g., ACAS, SCAP)
  • Familiarity with Windows/Linux environments and network security principles
  • Experience with eMASS or similar accreditation tools
  • Candidates must meet DoD 8140-M Intermediate level qualification requirements: BS degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related area of study, required
  • If a bachelor's degree is not held, qualified candidates must have a Security+, SecurityX, or other 8140-M Intermediate-level certification
  • U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance
  • Selected candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the ISSO for S@S systems in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of the Navy cybersecurity policies
  • Maintain system compliance under the Risk Management Framework (RMF)
  • Develop, implement, and manage cybersecurity documentation (eMASS packages, SSPs, POA&Ms, etc.)
  • Conduct continuous monitoring, vulnerability assessments, and remediation tracking
  • Coordinate with system owners, network engineers, and government ISSMs to maintain ATO status
  • Ensure proper configuration management, patching, and STIG implementation
  • Support cybersecurity inspections, audits, and assessments
  • Monitor system logs and investigate security incidents in coordination with cyber defense teams
  • Provide cybersecurity guidance for system upgrades, integrations, and deployments at sea
  • Support IA/Cybersecurity requirements for LVC and distributed training environments
  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary
