About The Position

The Information Security Systems Engineer 5 (Linux/Windows Systems Administrator) serves as the dedicated systems administrator for Waco’s secure, isolated lab and air-gap environments. The role provides on-site ownership of Linux and Windows infrastructure supporting multiple U.S. Government programs, engineering, and related mission work. The administrator provisions, secures, operates, troubleshoots, and documents systems and services while maintaining clear boundaries among Secure Area IT, Program teams, and Industrial Security. The position administers Red Hat-based Linux and Windows servers and workstations, and builds and maintains infrastructure services including DNS, DHCP, NFS, automounts, SMB/Samba, Windows domain services, Active Directory, FreeIPA or LDAP, NTP, virtualization, storage, backup, and monitoring. Services must be documented and recoverable so the air-gap environment can support users and engineering teams without remote enterprise access. The role supports software engineers with secure development infrastructure, including controlled remote access, standardized images, source-code and DevOps platforms, and troubleshooting across operating systems. It partners with information security stakeholders to harden and audit systems, implement or sustain STIG baselines and security controls, and provide evidence for CMMC, ATO, continuous monitoring, and Program accreditation activities. It also maintains operational documentation and status reporting, responds on site to incidents and outages, coordinates recovery and vendors, and helps establish a dependable local support model and accredited sustainment capability for the Waco secure-area environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and a minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience; alternatively, a graduate degree in one of these fields and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of prior related systems administration experience.
  • Hands-on experience administering Linux on Red Hat-based distributions and Windows.
  • Experience with Active Directory, shell scripting, network and storage services, system hardening, and supporting secure environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible, AWX, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Experience with centralized authentication technologies such as Active Directory, FreeIPA, LDAP, Kerberos, or IDM.
  • Experience administering source-code platforms such as GitLab, GitHub, or SVN.
  • Security+ or an equivalent security certification is strongly desired.
  • Experience with STIG implementation, audit readiness, Windows domain operations, and cross-functional support in defense or regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps platforms, log analysis, metrics and monitoring, virtualization, multi-operating-system environments, cloud platforms, and security-focused troubleshooting in distributed systems.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Red Hat-based Linux and Windows servers and workstations, including provisioning, troubleshooting, patching, privilege management, identity and access administration, configuration changes, and lifecycle support.
  • Build and maintain infrastructure services such as DNS, DHCP, NFS, automounts, SMB/Samba, Windows domain services, Active Directory, FreeIPA or LDAP, NTP, virtualization, storage, backup, and monitoring.
  • Document and maintain recoverable services that support users and engineering teams in an air-gap environment without relying on remote enterprise access.
  • Support software engineers with secure development infrastructure, controlled remote access, standardized workstation and server images, source-code and DevOps platforms, and multi-operating-system troubleshooting.
  • Translate engineering needs into supportable services and establish clear ownership boundaries.
  • Partner with information security stakeholders to harden and audit systems according to security guidance.
  • Implement or sustain STIG baselines, patching, vulnerability remediation, endpoint protection, centralized logging, and security-tool integration.
  • Maintain evidence for CMMC, ATO, continuous monitoring, and Program accreditation activities.
  • Maintain asset and service inventories, ownership records, network and configuration diagrams, standard operating procedures, change records, and audit artifacts.
  • Report open gaps, owners, aging, and next actions clearly.
  • Provide on-site operational response for incidents, outages, recovery activities, vendor coordination, emergency coverage, and closeout actions.
  • Help stabilize local support for the Waco secure-area environment and advance it toward an accredited sustainment model.
