About The Position

The Information Security Systems Engineer 5 serves as the dedicated systems administrator for Waco’s secure, isolated lab and air-gap environments. The role provides on-site ownership of Linux and Windows infrastructure supporting multiple U.S. Government programs, engineering, and related mission work. The administrator provisions, secures, operates, troubleshoots, and documents systems and services while maintaining clear boundaries among Secure Area IT, program teams, and Industrial Security. The position administers Red Hat-based Linux servers and workstations and Windows Server and workstations, and builds and maintains infrastructure services needed to support users and engineering teams in isolated environments. It supports secure development infrastructure, partners with information security stakeholders on system hardening and accreditation activities, maintains operational documentation and evidence, and responds on site to incidents, outages, and recovery needs. The position helps establish a dependable local support model and advance the Waco secure-area environment toward an accredited sustainment model.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Red Hat-based Linux servers and workstations and Windows Server and workstations, including provisioning, troubleshooting, patching, privilege management, identity and access administration, configuration changes, and lifecycle support across secure lab and isolated network environments.
  • Build and maintain infrastructure services including DNS, DHCP, NFS, automounts, SMB/Samba, Windows domain services, Active Directory, FreeIPA or LDAP, NTP, virtualization, storage, backup, and monitoring; document these services and ensure they are recoverable.
  • Support software engineers with secure development infrastructure, including controlled remote access, standardized workstation and server images, source-code and DevOps platforms, and troubleshooting across multi-operating-system environments.
  • Translate engineering needs into supportable services and establish clear ownership boundaries.
  • Partner with information security stakeholders to harden and audit systems to security guidance.
  • Implement or sustain STIG baselines, patching, vulnerability remediation, endpoint protection, centralized logging, security-tool integration, and evidence for CMMC, ATO, continuous monitoring, and program accreditation activities.
  • Maintain operational evidence and status reporting, including asset and service inventories, ownership records, network and configuration diagrams, standard operating procedures, change records, audit artifacts, and reporting on open gaps, owners, aging, and next actions.
