About The Position

The Information Security & Privacy Team requires the services of a Cybersecurity Intern to assist in the Cybersecurity Operations and the IAM Implementation Activities amongst other assignments, which includes privileged access monitoring, access control validations and security assessments reporting. The student will be working collaboratively with the Information Security & Privacy Team and other ITS staff, among others. The Information Security & Privacy Team requires the services of a senior Student Intern from Algonquin College to assist with the following related secure operations and IAM activities (but not limited to), under the supervision of the Associate Director, Information Security and Privacy.

Requirements

  • Students applying to this position must be in receipt of OSAP or out-of-province assistance during the current or prior academic year or must have a demonstrated financial need determined using Financial Aid and Student Awards standardized needs and assessment budget calculation tool.
  • For students to be eligible for CSEP positions, they must be registered in a full-time program, be a domestic fee-paying student, and must be able to demonstrate a financial need by successfully applying for OSAP or out-of-province financial aid funding.
  • Required skills normally acquired through partial completion of secondary school education, or equivalent;
  • Job duties require the ability to apply fundamental reading, writing, and arithmetic skills;
  • Up to six months of practical experience;
  • This position is funded through the College Student Employment Program (CSEP). Applicants must be eligible for CSEP;
  • You must be currently enrolled in a full-time program. The following students are not eligible: Better Jobs Ontario, Apprenticeship Programs, International students, Algonquin College employees paying a reduced tuition, Collaborative programs with the University of Ottawa or Carleton University and all programs that are not Ministry-approved;
  • You must be a Canadian citizen, a Permanent Resident, or a Protected Person/Convention Refugee within the meaning of subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) prior to the application deadline date;
  • You must demonstrate a financial need by successfully applying for OSAP or out-of-province financial aid funding;

Responsibilities

  • Review and Perform Security assessments request and escalate them to a Senior Cyber Security Strategist for review;
  • Review applicable standards requirements including the new IAM Standard, PCI DSS and the Information Security Incident Management Process;
  • Review College security and privacy policies, as well as applicable standards, procedures and practices;
  • Work under the guidance of a Senior Cyber Security Strategist in preparing Security Education and Awareness Training (SAT) resources;
  • Research and identify initial security operations gaps and requirements for the implementation of E&Y Audit controls;
  • Test, review and make recommendations on the recently implemented email encryption and DLP governance, policies and practices (including security response and Service Desk procedures), DLP fine tuning, alerts handling, training needs, and College communications;
  • Research and prepare PowerPoint presentations as required;
  • Undertake other related research and writing activities as assigned by a Senior Cyber Security Strategist or the Associate Director, Information Security & Privacy
