About The Position

The School of Information Studies (SOIS) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is seeking a Teaching Faculty member specializing in Information Law and Ethics. This is a full-time, 9-month, renewable instructional academic staff position (Teaching Faculty II) suitable for both face-to-face and fully online delivery at the Bachelor's and Master's levels. The role requires a dedication to excellent teaching, student success, and continuous professional development to stay current with legal and ethical issues in libraries, industry, information professions, and higher education trends impacting the curriculum. The successful candidate will foster a positive work environment and participate in school and college initiatives. The anticipated start date is January 8, 2027.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, or higher, in library science, information science, law, or a closely related field from an accredited US institution or international equivalent by the start date of the appointment.
  • Knowledge and expertise in the legal and ethical issues in librarianship and/or information technology.
  • Evidence of university-level teaching experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Terminal degree (i.e. PhD or JD) in information science, library science, law, or a closely related discipline.
  • Knowledge and experience in legal and ethical issues in the public and/or private sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability in the design and delivery of courses in face-to-face and online formats.
  • Professional experience in libraries, information organizations, legal practice related to information/IP, or technology policy.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate classroom and online instruction for assigned courses, including assessment of student performance.
  • Serve as an initial point of contact for students regarding specific course or series content and expectations.
  • Develop instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment in the school and college.
  • Participate in school and college-wide initiatives and events.

Benefits

  • The target hiring range is $75,000-$85,000 on a 9-month, academic basis.
