About The Position

As an Information Assurance Specialist II, you will be joining a dynamic team providing invaluable support to a large government contract performing applied laboratory research across a diverse range of biological and chemical biological disciplines. Operating in a collaborative environment, this position is responsible for information systems and data management support for a laboratory program, helping ensure that operational and scientific data are secure, accessible, and effectively maintained. This role supports databases, servers, networks, applications, files, and LIMS; identifies upgrade and contingency needs; gathers user requirements; and helps design or implement system enhancements. The position also supports backups, testing events, documentation, and system compliance activities across the information management environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, responsiveness to operational issues, and the ability to work effectively with government sponsors, technical teams, and other key stakeholders in support of complex national security and laboratory operations. Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, cybersecurity, information assurance, engineering, or a related technical field and 2 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in information systems support, cybersecurity, or laboratory information management environments.
  • Experience supporting one or more of the following: databases, servers, networks, applications, file systems, backup/recovery processes, or LIMS in a regulated, operational, laboratory, or secure environment; familiarity with information assurance principles, system documentation, compliance requirements, and troubleshooting of enterprise or laboratory systems is required.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a secure environment and hold Secret security clearance, with experience supporting laboratory, biodefense, CBRNE, or other high-consequence operational environments strongly preferred.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and have a working knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Sole U.S. citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide information assurance and data management support for laboratory information systems, ensuring availability, integrity, confidentiality, and proper handling of operational and scientific data.
  • Support administration and maintenance of databases, servers, networks, applications, file repositories, and LIMS platforms used in laboratory and operational environments.
  • Gather, document, and analyze user and program requirements to recommend system improvements, workflow enhancements, and technical solutions aligned with mission needs.
  • Assist with the design, configuration, testing, implementation, and sustainment of information system upgrades, patches, and enhancements.
  • Perform or coordinate routine backup, restoration, and disaster recovery support activities to help ensure continuity of operations and data resilience.
  • Participate in contingency planning, system testing events, validation activities, and recovery exercises to assess readiness and improve operational reliability.
  • Maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, configuration records, and compliance artifacts in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Support system security and compliance activities, including access control administration, account management, vulnerability remediation, audit support, and policy adherence.
  • Collaborate with scientists, laboratory personnel, IT staff, cybersecurity teams, and operational stakeholders to resolve issues and support secure, efficient system performance.
  • Monitor system performance and data management processes, identify risks or opportunities for improvement, and escalate issues as needed to support uninterrupted laboratory operations.
  • Quarterly domestic travel to Edgewood, Maryland is anticipated.
