About The Position

This is a temporary position with the Office of State Human Resources, Division of Temporary Solutions. The agency's mission is to provide a solid Human Resource management foundation, responsible oversight, and creative solutions through a collaborative approach with all stakeholders to maximize the potential of its employees. This role is located at 1915 Health Services Way, Raleigh, NC 27699 in Wake County, with the Department of Health and Human Services. Temporary employees may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) if they work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week. This position offers exposure to an agency's culture, processes, and procedures, providing valuable experience for those seeking permanent employment with the state.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, media journalism, English, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Considerable knowledge of journalistic, communication, and/or publication principles and practices.
  • Considerable knowledge of the techniques for disseminating information to the public through a variety of news media.
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques of planning, writing, and editing publications.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and prepare material for speeches.
  • Write according to correct English usage and accepted standards for magazine and press publications.
  • Edit and analyze informational material prepared by others.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of the press, radio, and television and other persons contacted in the course of work.
  • Lead and direct the work of staff.
