About The Position

The Saint Louis County Department of Public Health is seeking a solutions-driven professional to serve as an Informatics Specialist. This position reports to the Manager of Informatics and is responsible for supporting the implementation, functionality, and ongoing optimization of Epic, the Department of Public Health’s electronic health record (EHR) system. This role works closely with clinical staff, program staff, division leadership, and technical partners to ensure data integrity, enhance system functionality, and support the collection, analysis, and use of data to inform decision making. The Informatics Specialist plays a key role in improving operational efficiency and advancing the Department’s ability to use information to protect and improve community health outcomes.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in public health, informatics, multimedia, visual arts, computer programming, or related field
  • At least two years of related professional work experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with public health or healthcare data systems, including electronic health record systems.
  • Experience administering, supporting, or optimizing Epic or similar electronic health record platforms.
  • Experience supporting system implementation, upgrades, testing, workflow documentation, or user training.
  • Experience developing reports, dashboards, data extracts, or data visualizations to support operational decision making.
  • Knowledge of data quality standards, data governance, and data security practices.
  • Experience working in a public health, governmental, or healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary support resource for Epic, the Department of Public Health’s electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Assist with the configuration, maintenance, testing, and optimization of Epic workflows and system functionality.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data maintained within Epic and related health information systems.
  • Provide daily technical support and troubleshooting assistance to staff utilizing Epic, integrated applications, and related public health data systems.
  • Collaborate with clinical, operational, and informatics teams to evaluate workflows and support process improvements aligned with Epic system capabilities.
  • Support system upgrades, implementations, training activities, and issue resolution related to Epic and associated technologies.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, reports, dashboards, data extracts, and data validation processes to support operational, leadership, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform routine data quality audits and validation checks to maintain data integrity and compliance.
  • Create high-quality data visualization products and informatics materials for consumption by decision makers and to support public-facing data efforts.
