About The Position

The Division of Infectious Diseases & International Medicine at the University of Minnesota is a globally recognized leader in clinical research and implementation science focused on advanced HIV disease, tuberculosis, and fungal infections. This role includes a combination of research, clinical care, and international fieldwork, with a strong expectation of sustained scholarly productivity and leadership in global infectious diseases.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree
  • Completion of an ABIM-accredited Infectious Diseases fellowship
  • Formal training in global health (e.g., Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene) or equivalent international field experience
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct clinical trials research, including prior leadership roles with first- or senior-author publication(s)
  • Willingness and ability to work part-time in Kampala, Uganda, supporting international clinical research programs

  • Active or eligible for Minnesota medical licensure
  • Experience conducting clinical trials in resource-limited settings
  • Track record of grant writing and external funding applications

Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to NIH-funded clinical trials and observational studies focused on advanced HIV disease and opportunistic infections
  • Oversee study design, regulatory compliance, and implementation across U.S. and international sites
  • Supervise and mentor trainees, research staff, and collaborators
  • Develop independent research projects aligned with division priorities
  • Disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations
  • Contribute to grant writing and development of future funding proposals
  • Provide inpatient infectious diseases consultation at the University of Minnesota Medical Center
  • Participate in teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows
  • Maintain clinical excellence in the diagnosis and management of complex infectious diseases
