About The Position

Lutheran Home is hiring an Infection Preventionist (RN) to oversee infection prevention across its Arlington Heights campus, which includes skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, memory care, and assisted living. The role focuses on keeping residents and team members safe through infection surveillance, education, audits, employee health programs, and collaboration with clinical leaders and regulators. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday on the day shift, with occasional schedule flexibility for training, audits, or outbreak response. The organization says it responds to applicants within 48 hours.

Requirements

Current Illinois RN license.
Complete the CDC Nursing Home Infection Preventionist Training Course, or equivalent, within 30 days of hire, as required in Illinois.
Applicants must be able to produce a negative drug test.
Applicants may be subject to a background check.

Nice To Haves

At least one year of experience as an Infection Preventionist.
Experience teaching or training staff.
Experience in geriatrics or long-term care.
APIC Fundamentals of Surveillance, Prevention, and Control, or CIC certification.
Comfort analyzing data and writing reports.

Responsibilities

Run the infection prevention and control program across every care setting on campus.
Track infections, identify trends, and develop clear reports and action plans based on data.
Teach and coach nurses and CNAs on infection prevention practices.
Conduct regular rounds and audits on each unit.
Lead employee health programs for team members.
Work with clinical leaders, the local health department, and state regulators on reporting and survey readiness.
Mentor nursing staff and serve as a clinical resource for infection-related questions.
