About The Position

Under the general supervision of Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) leadership, the IP2 position is the second step in the four-level career ladder from Novice to Expert. IP2 is for individuals with some infection prevention or related healthcare experience, but without the knowledge or skills in all infection prevention content areas to function independently. This position will specifically support Infection Prevention of the Ambulatory Care practices of BILH, which includes specifically all non-hospital based BILH ambulatory clinics and infusion centers. As a part of the Ambulatory Infection Prevention team, this position will help develop educational and guidance resources for Ambulatory Care settings. Key components of this position are the following: · Travel to the different BILH Ambulatory care clinic locations (approximately 40% of the time) to assess and provide guidance on Infection Prevention standards · Assist in the system-wide level IP strategy under the Manager of Infection Prevention-Ambulatory through IP project development and clinic (not inpatient) rounding. · Represent Ambulatory Infection Prevention at BILH to help develop control measures, campaigns, and interventions related to healthcare-associated infections (e.g., Hand Hygiene) · Review themes and data to support recommendations for system-wide change with the Ambulatory Infection Prevention team · Consistent monitoring of infectious disease surveillance in the Ambulatory setting, including surveillance for specific infectious disease results and the coordination of follow-up exposure investigations (e.g. Chickenpox, Pertussis, Tuberculosis, Mumps) · Understand and utilize regulatory requirements as it pertains to Infection Prevention standards in Ambulatory Care settings

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required.
1-5 years of work experience required
Professional licensure in related field (RN, MT, etc.) must be maintained as active, if applicable
Advanced skills with the Microsoft Office suite applications required
Detail oriented, critical thinker, effective communicator with analytical abilities and strong interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in Infection Control, Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, or Statistics preferred.
Licensed Registered Nurse preferred
1-3 years of work experience in infection prevention and control preferred
Experience in use of electronic health records, particularly Epic and/or infection prevention software preferred

Responsibilities

Complete training in healthcare-associated infection surveillance (CLABSI, CAUTI, SSI). Demonstrate competency in performing these types of surveillance independently with accuracy and consistency.
Perform direct observation of basic infection prevention practices, including staff hand hygiene. Document appropriately and communicate with unit leadership, as necessary.
With support of IP3-4s and/or Medical Director(s) and IPC leadership, work up patient and staff exposures to select infectious diseases, complete exposure documentation, and communicate with local Employee Health and unit leadership.
With support of IP3-4s and/or Medical Director(s) and IPC leadership, help manage diseases of public health concern (e.g. Tuberculosis, Mpox) case evaluations, management, and reporting to the department of public health (DPH).
Develop competence in Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and other regulatory requirements. Assist in TJC preparedness efforts as assigned.
Function as primary infection prevention contact for select inpatient units/ambulatory clinics/service lines, including staff education with support of IP3-4s.
Independently perform Infection Control Risk Assessments for construction and maintenance projects and monitor compliance as needed.
Develop skills in outbreak detection and management. Assist more IP3-4s and/or Medical Directors and IPC leadership in outbreak investigations and reporting.
Develop and demonstrate competency in basic data analysis and statistical methodologies.
Demonstrates good judgement by asking for assistance from IP3-4s, IPC leadership, and Medical Directors as appropriate and maintains strict adherence to BILH confidentiality guidelines and always maintains compliance with HIPAA. Additional duties as assigned.
