The Infection Prevention Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for abstracting data from patient charts for surveillance and focus studies, generating healthcare-associated infection statistics, and developing and piloting data collection tools. This role utilizes several electronic systems to collect data and reports epidemiological findings to department leadership and the Medical Director. The RN will maintain accurate records of infections, compile, analyze, and disseminate surveillance data, and collaborate with leadership to make recommendations for improvements based on data analysis, literature reviews, and comparisons of observed practices to professional standards. The position also involves advocating for patients, visitors, and healthcare workers, creating, implementing, and revising infection prevention policies, and assisting with investigations and follow-up of occupational exposures and communicable diseases. Additionally, the RN will assist with investigations and recommendations for corrective actions related to healthcare facility construction and moisture management, identify unsafe infection control practices and hazards, and design, implement, and monitor solutions to system-wide problems. This role serves as a resource person for infection prevention issues and may participate in various committees. Collaboration with the Hospital Based Public Health Epidemiologist, Safety, Emergency, and Infectious Disease Medicine is expected for policy development, investigation, and recommendations related to bioterrorism readiness and community outbreak control measures.
