This is a dual role of Infection Preventionist and Nurse Educator; a brief overview of expectations is below. Infection Preventionist responsibilities center on reducing healthcare-associated infections. You’d typically: Develop and maintain an infection control program aligned with guidelines from organizations like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Conduct surveillance (tracking infections, outbreaks, antibiotic use). Lead outbreak investigations and implement containment measures. Ensure proper isolation procedures, hand hygiene, and PPE use. Report required data (e.g., through NHSN) and prepare for inspections. Nurse Educator responsibilities focus on staff competency and ongoing training. You’d typically: Orient new hires and provide continuing education for nursing staff. Ensure competencies in clinical skills, documentation, and regulatory standards. Develop in-service trainings (infection control, wound care, dementia care, etc.). Support performance improvement initiatives and coach staff. Stay current with best practices and translate them into practical training.
