About The Position

The Infection Control RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates infection prevention and control activities at Thrive Medical Services correctional sites. This role leads surveillance for communicable and infectious diseases, supports outbreak response, educates staff and patients, and ensures infection control practices meet correctional healthcare standards. The Infection Control RN provides nursing care in accordance with policy, program requirements, and regulations while collaborating with providers, nursing, and custody staff.

Requirements

  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Mexico.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention principles, surveillance, and communicable disease control.
  • Strong assessment, documentation, and critical-thinking skills; ability to work independently in a secure environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Infection control, public health, or correctional experience preferred.
  • ACLS preferred.
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or progress toward certification.
  • Prior correctional healthcare experience and familiarity with NCCHC standards.
  • Experience with epidemiological investigation and outbreak management.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the facility infection prevention and control program.
  • Conduct surveillance, prevention, and control of communicable and sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Perform and coordinate epidemiological investigations and outbreak response.
  • Maintain records, analyze infection data and trends, and prepare reports.
  • Perform professional nursing care including assessment, triage, treatment, and evaluation of patients.
  • Administer medications and treatments under provider orders within RN scope of practice.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate care with providers and custody staff.
  • Document all patient care activities accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Educate patients and staff on prevention of the spread of infection and infection control practices.
  • Implement infectious disease control procedures and assist with development of related policies and procedures.
  • Ensure chemical/medication labeling and storage meet all requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations governing nursing and healthcare practice, including HIPAA, NCCHC, NMAC, and PREA.
  • Participate in CQI activities, audits, and continuous improvement of infection control outcomes.
  • Follow facility safety and security policies and maintain security clearance throughout employment.
  • Adhere to Thrive Medical Services policies and applicable laws and regulations.
