About The Position

The Infection Control Practitioner assists in the day-to-day management of the hospital-wide infection control program. This program is designed to identify, control, and prevent hospital-associated infections among patients. It is a coordinated process designed to reduce the risk of the spread of communicable diseases between patients and staff. The program is of a dual nature involving the clinical aspects of patient care and the biosafety components of occupational safety and health. The Infection Control Practitioner is a member of the hospital Infection Control Committee and, in conjunction with the Infection Prevention Director, has the authority and responsibility to institute appropriate control measures or conduct epidemiological studies, where there is reasonable risk to patients and/or personnel.

Requirements

  • Degree from an accredited School of Nursing, Medical Technology, or a related field or equivalent OR Masters of Public Health
  • Current license in the State of Maryland as a Registered Nurse or certification as a Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist
  • At least two (2) years of clinical experience
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience as an RN, Medical Technologist, or Epidemiologist

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc (CBIC) or taken within 2 years of hire
  • Experience in Infection Prevention and Control

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the day-to-day management of the hospital-wide infection control program.
  • Identifies, controls, and prevents hospital-associated infections among patients.
  • Reduces the risk of the spread of communicable diseases between patients and staff.
  • Involves clinical aspects of patient care and biosafety components of occupational safety and health.
  • Is a member of the hospital Infection Control Committee.
