About The Position

Be part of something new - our Clinical Nutrition Department is launching an Infant Nutrition Lab! This is an exciting new opportunity where you will help provide infants and children with nutrition they need to thrive. The Nutrition Lab Technician (NLT) performs a variety of tasks related to the preparation and delivery of human milk and infant/pediatric formulas and transfer of information concerning patient formula orders. Calculates, prepares, delivers and monitors specialized infant formula, modulated infant or pediatric formulas, human milk, and medical nutrition supplements. Adheres to all food safety and sanitation regulations and standards established by regulating agencies and the health care facility. Performs inventory management, operates feeding preparation equipment, maintains sanitation in the feeding preparation room, performs quality improvement, completes temperature/sanitation records, and communicates information through various telecommunications modes. The NLT will demonstrate competencies relative to infection control principles, appropriate technical calculations, knowledge of common medical abbreviations and terminologies, and knowledge of available formula products and human milk additives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Computer proficiency is a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Unpacks, labels, and stores human milk, donor milk, and formula in designated areas using the first-in, firstout (FIFO) method.
  • Maintains sanitation in preparation and storage areas. Ensures sanitation of supplies and equipment. Prepares feeding using aseptic technique.
  • Prepares, portions and delivers patient feeding per provider order.
  • Maintains patient feeding orders via computer system and accurately prepares feeding orders that are not available as ready-to-feed orders, using barcode scanning.
  • Reports discrepancies in feeding orders to team lead or supervisor.
  • Transcribes feeding order information for prepared feeding.
  • Monitors daily inventory and maintains an adequate inventory of Nutrition lab supplies. Follows processes, as established, for quality assurance monitors.
  • Covers, labels and dates formula and additives requiring refrigeration according to Nutrition Lab policy.
  • Removes products that have damaged packaging or are and outdated from inventory and disposes per facility guidelines.
  • Uses correct technique to measure solids and liquids.
  • Maintains clean equipment and cleans small wares in the dishwasher; records dish machine temperature and conducts dish machine cleaning/routine maintenance per procedure.
  • Sets up assigned workstation maintaining a sanitary and safe environment by following departmental and infection prevention policies, reports unsafe conditions and accidents to team lead/supervisor.
  • Adheres to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines.
  • Assists in training other employees in feeding preparation and proper handling techniques.
  • Attends mandatory meetings and in-service education programs as scheduled by the department and facility.
  • Communicates effectively with the allied health care team.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
