About The Position

This is a full-time professional position providing specialized consultation and training that helps early childhood professionals build the capacity to support children’s social and emotional needs. The person in this position functions with a great deal of professional independence under the general guidance and supervision of the Lead Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field with appropriate State of MI licensure
  • MI-AIMH endorsement of Infant Family Specialist (IFS) (Level II) within 1 year of hire.
  • Valid MI license and ability to meet agency’s insurance company’s standards of coverage
  • MiRegistry approved trainer within 1 year of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Infant Mental Health Specialist (IMHS) (Level III) is preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with home based childcare providers preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with infants and young children in a mental health position
  • Leadership skills, initiative, and the ability to work collaboratively

Responsibilities

  • Provide collaborative, relationship-based mental health consultation to home care providers, center/school-based teachers, and directors to promote equitable learning environments and overall well-being
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in diverse early childhood programs and settings
  • Observe and provide classroom/program assessment and feedback
  • Provide child and family centered consultation when caregivers or parents/guardians have concerns regarding specific children
  • Develop strength-based goals with teachers and families
  • Provide modeling, resources, and referrals as needed
  • Conduct community outreach to heighten the awareness of children’s mental health needs
  • Maintain a caseload, assist in program implementation and reporting as required by funding source
  • Provide training and workshops for early childhood professionals and parents
  • Engage in reflective supervision with supervisor and peers
  • Establish and maintain relationships with those in the community serving infants, toddlers, and young children
