About The Position

Reports to the Director of Behavioral Health and works cooperatively with childcare providers and families to support healthy social-emotional and behavioral development. The ultimate goal of the Infant/Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant is to deliver mental health consultation services in childcare and pre-school settings to promote mental health of infants and young children. Infant/Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants will primarily be working in childcare centers, pre-schools, and occasionally in families’ homes or other community settings.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health, childcare, education, or social service related field required.
  • Prevention certification or willingness to obtain is required.
  • Education related to and/or experience working with infants, young children and families with behavioral and/or social emotional needs required.
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to GESMV’s liability insurance provider.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Ability to pass random drug screenings.
  • Ability to document, record, write information accurately and thoroughly.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedule with occasional evenings/weekends.
  • Commitment to the health and well-being of socially disadvantaged persons.
  • Annual criminal background check may be required of employees serving mental health trainees and behavioral health services programs.
  • Must be able to work independently with little direct supervision as well as have the ability to work cooperatively as a team member.
  • Must be able to follow through with projects and assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ability to deal with daily operational challenges in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Must possess excellent customer service, organizational, writing, and reading skills.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate well with a broad spectrum of people; including consumers and employees.
  • Good time management, planning and implementation skills
  • Ability to think creatively and problem-solve.

Nice To Haves

  • OIMHP and/or ECMH credential preferred.
  • Experience working cooperatively with teachers/childcare providers/families preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Behavioral Health in program planning and implementation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of infant and child developmental milestones.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with GESMV child screeners, community childcare center staff, and families.
  • Performs work in an ethical manner and ensures that persons are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Self-determination of persons must be acknowledged and respected.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to work with a diverse staff and client population.
  • Assess children referred by child screeners and community childcare centers using evidence-based screening tools (DECA, ASQ-SE).
  • Provide childcare consultation to early childhood classroom teachers and families.
  • Provide training and workshops for early childhood classroom teachers and families.
  • Compile necessary reports and documentation as required.
  • Provide supervisor with necessary documentation and reports in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure compliance with all agency policies, procedures, and safety standards throughout work areas and maintain same to meet Department of Labor and all other relevant regulatory standards.
  • Travel within the community to assist persons in securing and connecting to necessary resources as required.
  • Provide transportation at times and maintain adequate liability insurance.
  • Ensure compliance with all Agency policies, procedures throughout areas and maintain same to meet CARF, Department of Labor and other regulatory standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
