About The Position

Homeless Children’s Network (HCN) is seeking an Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant (ECMH Consultant) to join their team. This full-time position focuses on providing early intervention and mental health support to children, youth, and families experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or intergenerational poverty. HCN utilizes a mobile therapeutic model and works collaboratively with over 60 service agencies. The ECMH Program pairs culturally competent consultants with vulnerable communities to support infants and young children in settings like childcare centers, shelters, and family resource centers. Consultants use a relationship-focused, equitable, and trauma-informed approach to build adults' capacity to support children's social and emotional development. The role involves direct work with agency staff, offering support, feedback, and advice on implementing effective programs for healthy child development. Services include consultation to parents, referrals, parent education, therapeutic intervention, training for providers, program consultation, and child observation.

Requirements

Master's degree, especially in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work/Social Welfare, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a similarly related field.
Registered with the Board of Behavioral Science (BBS) or actively in the registration process.
Licensed in California.
Experienced and knowledgeable in child development, especially in BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, POC) families and communities.
Knowledge of and/or interest in early childhood (0-5 years old) development and supports.
Working knowledge/experience related to issues of homelessness and domestic violence.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Positive attitude and team play with proven ability to work with people of different intersecting identities.
Compassion and exquisite cultural responsiveness.
Strong analysis of how race, ethnicity, culture, language, region, poverty, sexual and gender identity, age, education, opportunities and resources, and systemic oppressions impact a person's mental health.
Willingness to engage with HCN's community culture and legacy, and contribute to its growth.

Responsibilities

Listen, learn, and observe relationships within the consultation environment (staff to staff, staff to child, child to child, etc.).
Build a reflective practice and curious stance with staff through individual or group consultation and by modeling within the classroom space.
Facilitate deeper conversations regarding implicit bias, personal triggers, cultural competence, etc., within a safe relationship.
Co-create meaning around behaviors and increase adult capacity-building skills with consultant support.
Increase participation in holding a system-wide mental health goal, plan, or vision with the leadership team.
Support sites through a consultative stance, utilizing the Menu of Services to collaborate and support staff, families, and children.
Complete monthly documentation such as activity sheets, scenario apps, and demographic surveys.
